Coremark Test Suite

This project has a primary goal of building and maintaining a test suite. This suite will be used to test snort rules and rulesets for performance impact and accuracy (false positive and negative). Snort performance on different platforms and hardware will be measurable as well.

This project was started by the generous donation of a privately developed test suite by the folks at Sensory Networks. They continue to be core developers of the project.

Project Goals: (DRAFT)

Build a test suite that can do the following:

1. Generate Normal Network Traffic

2. Generate Attack Traffic

3. Generate Random RFC-Violating Traffic

This all being done to accomplish:

1. Test new snort signatures for snort load impact

2. Test entire rulesets for snort load impact

3. Generate statistics to allow comparison and tuning of rules and rulesets

4. Generate statistics to allow comparison of hardware running snort

5. Generate statistics to allow comparison of operating systems running snort

6. Generate statistics to allow comparison and tuning of flex response, snort_inline, and snortsam rulesets
